A trade show backwall is the main branded wall at the back of an exhibit booth, usually 8 feet tall and 8, 10 or 20 feet wide. Backwalls cost $208 for a 10 foot fabric popup, $535 to $891 for tension fabric, $1,386 to $1,525 for magnetic modular and up to $7,901 for aluminum extrusion systems.
Backwall, display wall, exhibit wall and booth wall all mean the same object, which is part of why the category is confusing to shop. This guide covers what a backwall actually is, the four construction types, real prices by width, and how stretch fabric differs from the printed vinyl it replaced.

What is a trade show backwall?
A trade show backwall is the freestanding wall that forms the back of an inline booth, carrying the main graphic and defining the space. Standard height is 8 feet, which is the display height limit at most inline booths. Standard widths are 8, 10 and 20 feet, matching 10x10 and 10x20 booth sizes.
It is not a banner stand, which is a narrow vertical graphic on its own base, and it is not the booth, which is the floor space you rent. The backwall is what goes in that space at the back.
Three things a backwall does that nothing else in the booth does: it carries the message that reads from the aisle, it hides whatever is behind it, and it gives every other element something to sit against.
How much does a trade show backwall cost?
Backwall prices start at $208 for a 10 ft x 8 ft fabric popup and run to $7,901 for a 20 foot modular aluminum system. Tension fabric backwalls cost $535 to $891, magnetic modular panels $1,386 to $1,525, and SEG extrusion systems $896 to $7,901.

Four types of backwall construction
Fabric popup
A collapsible frame with the stretch fabric graphic attached, from $208 for a full 10 ft x 8 ft wall at 31 lbs. Assembles in one to two minutes, packs in a soft case. The cheapest and lightest route to a branded wall, and for most exhibitors the right one.
Tension fabric
Aluminum tube frames with a pillowcase graphic stretched over and zipped closed. WaveLine systems run $535 to $891 at only 10 lbs. The surface is flatter and the finish more premium than a popup, with no seams or panel lines.
Magnetic modular panels
Fabric panels that link magnetically and detach to form different widths. Modulate kits run $601 for 10 foot configurations and $1,386 to $1,525 at 20 feet, weighing 76 to 155 lbs. The panels re link, so one kit covers more than one booth size.
SEG aluminum extrusion
Silicone edge graphics pressed into an extrusion groove. Vector Frame Master kits start at $896 for a 10x10 backwall at 63 lbs, which is light for true extrusion. Hybrid Pro systems reach $7,901 and 840 lbs. These reconfigure across booth sizes, which is what the weight and price buy.

Stretch fabric displays versus vinyl
Stretch fabric backwalls use dye sublimated polyester tensioned over a frame, giving a matte seamless surface with no panel lines. Printed vinyl is more rigid, cheaper per square foot, and shows creases and glare. Fabric graphics also pack flat and ship in an envelope when the campaign changes.
Four practical differences:
- Seams. Fabric is one piece over the frame. Vinyl panel systems show the joins under hall lighting.
- Glare. Matte fabric absorbs overhead light. Vinyl reflects it, which is why booth photos often have a bright band across the graphic.
- Creases. Fabric tensions flat again after folding. A creased vinyl panel stays creased.
- Reprint cost. A replacement fabric skin folds into a mailer. Rigid panels need a crate, and the freight can approach the print cost.
What size backwall do you need?
A 10x10 inline booth takes an 8 to 10 foot backwall. A 10x20 booth takes a 20 foot wall or two 10 foot walls. Standard height is 8 feet because most inline booths cap display height there, so check the exhibitor manual before buying anything taller.
| Booth | Backwall width | Price range |
|---|---|---|
| Tabletop event | 5 to 8 ft | $75 to $591 |
| 10x10 inline | 8 to 10 ft | $208 to $2,185 |
| 10x20 inline | 20 ft, or two 10 ft | $487 to $7,901 |
| 20x20 island | Modular, multiple walls | $5,225 and up |
Height catches people out more than width. Some popup backwalls assemble to 119 inches, which is nearly 10 feet and over the limit at most inline booths. Measure the assembled height, not the frame size.
Frequently asked questions
What is a trade show backwall?
A trade show backwall is the freestanding wall at the back of an exhibit booth that carries the main graphic. Standard height is 8 feet and standard widths are 8, 10 and 20 feet, matching 10x10 and 10x20 booth sizes.
How much does a backwall cost?
Backwalls cost $208 for a 10 ft x 8 ft fabric popup, $535 to $891 for tension fabric, $601 to $1,525 for magnetic modular panels and $896 to $7,901 for SEG aluminum extrusion systems.
What is a stretch fabric display?
A display using dye sublimated polyester tensioned over an aluminum frame, giving a matte seamless surface with no panel lines or glare. Fabric graphics pack flat and ship in an envelope, unlike rigid panels which need a crate.
How tall is a trade show backwall?
Standard height is 8 feet, which matches the display height limit at most inline booths. Some popup backwalls assemble to 119 inches, nearly 10 feet, which exceeds that limit, so check the assembled height and your exhibitor manual.
What size backwall fits a 10x10 booth?
An 8 to 10 foot wide backwall, costing $208 to $2,185 depending on construction. For a 10x20 booth, use a 20 foot wall or two 10 foot walls, from $487.
Is fabric better than vinyl for a backwall?
Fabric is seamless, matte so it does not glare under hall lighting, tensions flat again after folding and ships in an envelope when reprinted. Vinyl is cheaper per square foot and more rigid but shows creases, seams and reflections.
How much does a backwall weigh?
From 10 lbs for a WaveLine tension fabric wall to 840 lbs for a large Hybrid Pro modular system. Fabric popups are 30 to 31 lbs, magnetic modular panels 76 to 155 lbs, and SEG extrusion 63 to 195 lbs.
How long does production take?
Standard production time is 3 business days. Transit time is additional and depends on destination and shipping method.
