Trade Show Displays: Types, Prices and Sizes

Trade show displays are portable exhibit structures used to brand a booth: backwalls, banner stands, counters, towers, hanging signs and tabletop units. Prices run from $36 for a tabletop banner stand to $18,974 for a full island exhibit. A complete 10x10 booth setup typically costs $1,500 to $4,000.

The category covers a dozen product types that look similar in a photo and behave nothing alike on a show floor. This guide lays out every type of trade show display we stock, what each costs, what it weighs, and which booth size it suits, with links to the detailed breakdown for each.

What does a complete booth cost?

A complete 10x10 trade show booth costs roughly $1,500 to $4,000: a backwall from $487, a counter from $245, a banner stand from $42, a literature rack from $32 and lighting from $67. A 10x20 booth runs $2,500 to $7,000 depending on whether the backwall is pop-up or modular.

Three ways to reach a working 10x10:

  • Under $1,000. RPL fabric pop-up backwall $487, tension fabric counter $245, two clamp lights $134, literature rack $32. Everything ships under 130 lbs.
  • Around $2,500. Modulate magnetic backwall $1,386, case-to-counter $518, retractable banner $194, lighting kit included in some bundles.
  • $4,000 and up. Backlit or modular SEG backwall, backlit counter, tower, and a hanging sign if the show permits it.

The number most first-time exhibitors miss is not in this list. Show drayage is billed by shipping weight, so a booth that weighs 130 lbs and one that weighs 900 lbs cost very differently to get onto the floor, at every show, for the life of the display.

Types of trade show displays

Backwalls: pop-up, tension fabric and modular

The main wall of the booth. Pop-up displays use a collapsible frame with the graphic attached, from $32 for small units and $208 for a complete 10-foot wall. Tension fabric stretches a printed skin over a tube frame. Modular SEG systems use aluminum extrusion that reconfigures into other booth sizes, from $896.

Backlit and lightbox displays

LEDs inside the frame light the graphic from behind. Inflatable LED units start at $251, the cheapest full backlit backwall is $771, and modular lightbox systems reach $11,890. Colour saturation is something no external light reproduces.

Banner stands

The most bought item in the category, $36 to $2,621. Retractables roll the graphic into the base, telescopic stands use an adjustable frame, and outdoor spring-back stands flex in wind. Most weigh 7 to 14 lbs.

Counters and podiums

Portable branded workstations, 38 to 40 inches tall, $31 to $5,586. Used for check-in, demos, literature and storage. Tension fabric counters start at $245 and case-to-counter conversions turn your shipping case into the counter.

Tabletop displays

For events where exhibits sit on a provided table. Complete units run $36 to $1,982, most weighing 9 to 25 lbs, and set up in under two minutes.

Hanging banners and overhead signs

Suspended above the booth so the brand is visible from across the hall, $49 to $16,989. Shapes include circle, square, triangle, football, tapered and cube. Most shows permit them over island booths only.

Towers, kiosks and monoliths

Vertical columns 8 to 10 feet tall that read above the aisle, $216 to $18,974. Backlit towers start at $216, digital signage kiosks at $340, and monolith display walls at $1,025.

Lighting

The cheapest visible upgrade to any booth. Clamp lights are $67 to $113, system kits $370 to $1,829. Every lit booth needs an electrical drop ordered from the show contractor.

Choosing displays by booth size

A 10x10 booth needs a 10-foot backwall, one counter and a banner stand. A 10x20 needs a 20-foot backwall or two 10-foot walls, two counters, and benefits from a hanging sign if permitted. A 20x20 island uses modular systems and hanging structures because it is seen from four sides.

Booth Backwall Typical total
Tabletop $36 – $1,982 $100 – $2,000
10x10 inline $208 – $2,185 $1,500 – $4,000
10x20 inline $487 – $7,901 $2,500 – $7,000
20x20 island $5,225 – $18,974 $10,000+

What portable trade show displays have in common

Portable trade show displays share three traits: tool-free assembly, graphics that stay attached or pack flat, and a case designed for repeat shipping. Most portable backwalls weigh 30 to 100 lbs and assemble in under five minutes.

What separates them is what happens on the twentieth show, not the first. Cheap retraction mechanisms jam. Vinyl graphics curl. Frames that were never designed to be rebuilt loosen at the joints. If you exhibit twice a year, buy on price. If you exhibit monthly, buy on build.
