Portable trade show displays are exhibit systems built to ship repeatedly, assemble without tools and pack into a case. Complete portable displays cost $36 to $4,757 and weigh 2 to 211 lbs. The lightest full backwall is 31 lbs, the lightest banner stand 2 lbs, and the lightest complete 10 foot booth wall ships for $208.
Portability is not one thing. A display can be light but slow to build, fast to build but awkward to ship, or compact but fragile. This guide separates the three and puts real weights and prices against each, so you can sort by the one that actually costs you money.
How much do portable trade show displays cost?
Portable displays cost $36 for a tabletop banner stand, $208 for a complete 10 foot fabric backwall, $245 for a tension fabric counter and $462 for a magnetic popup kit. Full modular systems reach $4,757 but stop being portable in any practical sense above about 100 lbs.

| Tabletop fabric display | $75 to $591 | 8 to 25 lbs | 1 to 2 minutes |

The lightest trade show displays we stock
The lightest complete units are a Breeze tabletop banner stand at 2 lbs, an Aspen free standing SEG frame at 2 lbs, a Grasshopper adjustable banner stand at 3 lbs, an EZ Stand double sided graphic package at 4 lbs and a WaveLine tension fabric backwall at 10 lbs.
| Product | Weight | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Breeze 2 tabletop retractable | 2 lbs | $51 |
| Aspen free standing SEG, 2 ft x 6 ft | 2 lbs | $302 |
| Grasshopper adjustable banner stand, small | 3 lbs | $91 |
| Zen bamboo banner stand | 3 lbs | $68 |
| EZ Stand 2 ft x 7.5 ft double sided | 4 lbs | $201 |
| Econom-X large, 31.5" x 79" | 4 lbs | $70 |
| Mesh literature stand | 4 lbs | $91 |
| Xclaim 10 ft fabric popup | 14 lbs | $462 |
| WaveLine tabletop, 6 ft x 5 ft | 10 lbs | $535 |
| RPL 10 ft x 8 ft fabric popup | 31 lbs | $208 |
A 10 foot branded backwall that weighs 31 lbs and costs $208 is the number most first time exhibitors do not expect. The assumption is that a booth wall is a freight problem. For a fabric popup it is a suitcase problem.

Collapsible exhibition stands: how they fold
Collapsible display systems use one of three mechanisms. Magnetic popup frames collapse like a concertina with the graphic attached. Bungee pole frames snap together and take a zip on fabric skin. Scissor lattice frames expand and accept separate panels. The first two stay portable; the third gets heavy fast.
Magnetic popup frames
Collapsible arms lock magnetically and the stretch fabric graphic stays attached between shows. An Xclaim 10 foot kit is $462 at 14 lbs and packs into a soft case with a shoulder strap. Nothing to align, nothing to clip on.
Bungee pole frames
Aluminum poles joined by internal bungee cord snap into shape, then a pillowcase graphic slides over and zips at the bottom. WaveLine and merchandiser systems work this way. A 6 ft x 5 ft WaveLine tabletop is $535 at 10 lbs.
Scissor lattice frames
The traditional popup. A Coyote 10 ft serpentine frame is $684 but weighs 93 lbs, and 20 foot configurations reach 211 lbs. These make shapes fabric popups cannot, including serpentine walls, but they are not what anyone means by a portable trade show display.
Weight is the number that costs money
Show drayage is billed by hundredweight, so shipping weight is a recurring cost for the life of the display, not a one time number. A 31 lb popup backwall and a 211 lb scissor frame in the same booth size can differ several times over in what it costs to get onto the floor at every single show.
How to think about it:
- Under 50 lbs. One person handles it, it checks as airline luggage, and drayage is a rounding error. Fabric popups, banner stands, tabletop units.
- 50 to 100 lbs. Two people or a cart. Still shippable by parcel carrier. Tension fabric backwalls, counters, lightbox towers.
- Over 100 lbs. Freight. Price the drayage before you price the display, because over three years it can exceed the purchase price.
Ask for the shipping weight before you ask for a discount. It is the number that is still costing you in year three.
What makes a display actually portable
- The graphic stays attached. Systems where fabric stays on the frame set up in one motion and never get scratched in transit.
- No tools. If the instructions mention an allen key, add ten minutes and one more person.
- Soft case or hard case. Soft cases are lighter and cheaper. Hard cases survive more shows and some convert into counters.
- It folds loaded. A few systems, including the 5 step literature stand, collapse with contents inside, which matters on multi day shows.
- Replacement graphics ship flat. Dye sublimated fabric goes in an envelope. Rigid panels need a crate.
Portable trade show counters cost $245 to $650 and weigh 21 to 40 lbs. The lightest complete counter is a Ready Pop at 21 lbs, and a Hopup counter at 32 lbs assembles in seconds with the graphic pre attached. Case to counter conversions turn your shipping case into the counter, so you ship one object instead of two.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a portable trade show display cost?
Portable displays cost $36 for a tabletop banner stand, $208 for a complete 10 foot fabric backwall, $245 for a tension fabric counter and $462 for a magnetic popup kit. Scissor frame systems reach $4,757.
What is the lightest trade show display?
A Breeze tabletop retractable banner stand at 2 lbs. For a full booth wall, a WaveLine tension fabric display is 10 lbs and an RPL fabric popup backwall is 31 lbs. An Xclaim 10 foot magnetic popup kit is 14 lbs.
Can a trade show display be checked as luggage?
Most portable displays under 50 lbs can, since that is the common checked bag limit. Fabric popups, banner stands and tabletop units fall in this range. Check the packed case dimensions as well as the weight, because oversize fees apply before weight fees.
How long does a portable display take to set up?
Fabric popups and magnetic frames assemble in one to two minutes because the graphic stays attached. Bungee pole systems take two to five minutes. Scissor frame popups with separate panels take five to fifteen minutes and usually need two people.
What is a collapsible exhibition stand?
A display whose frame folds down for transport, using magnetic arms, bungee linked poles or a scissor lattice. Magnetic and bungee systems stay light, from 10 to 31 lbs. Scissor frames reach 211 lbs in larger sizes.
Why does display weight matter?
Show drayage is billed by hundredweight, so weight is a recurring cost at every show rather than a one time number. Over several years the difference between a 31 lb and a 211 lb display can exceed the purchase price gap.
How long does production take?
Standard production time is 3 business days. Transit time is additional and depends on destination and shipping method.
